It's probably been clear that I haven't enjoyed this drama at all.
I'll illustrate why by predicting what will happen in this episode:
- He decides do marry Contrived Plot Girl, so his mother never finds out about him being a
mass-murderergirl [both have the same shock value, it seems].
- He then meets Transfer Student Girl, and two things might happen:
- Either she wishes him happiness (and doesn't tell him she's leaving) because she believes he doesn't love her and after the conversation, he believes that she left because she doesn't love him.
- Or she tells him she's transferring...and the same consequences happen. Lose-lose situation.
- Either he doesn't say yes and gives a big speech about honesty
- Or Transfer Student Girl/Asuka's dad appear to give a similar speech, making Asuka's mother hate all of this at first but then understand – possibly because Asuka's dad will say that he still loves her.
Now, having said that, let's start the episode and see how many of this I got right.
P.S. : For those of you who know Hana Yori Dango, how familiar does all of that sound? If the answer is “very”, you are probably right.
Apparently, there was a rumor going around that he was leaving. For America. Which, thankfully, isn't true, because how many fucking times will I have to say “this is a carbon copy of Hana Yori Dango”?
Now, let's see if this turns into a huge misunderstanding on the feelings they have for eachother.
After having a whole day of classes where he couldn't concentrate, they meet again and she explains that she's leaving because her grandfather is sick.
We also learn that her father and grandfather are against her moving away from Ginyuri, but she tells Asuka, in her best “brave girl” voice that she wants to do this on her own.
No, it isn't. It's far too soon in the episode.
...would be too reasonable, therefore, I won't do it. “I want to send her off with a smile”...and the best way to do it is not tell her how you really feel.
After a “fight” with his mother – and by “fight” I mean that he said two or three sentences and she ignored him – Asuka learns something awesome in the following day:
I DID NOT EXPECT FOR IT TO BE RUSHED AT ALL.
Even Queen Bitch is surprised at how Transfer Student Girl chooses to ignore her feelings.
...would be completely stupid, since it's not obvious at all that he likes me. Oh, it “feels cowardly”. Thin Guy From Bleach tells her that both she and Asuka are blind as bats for not realizing their feelings, and makes it his duty to unite them. She's surprised. BUT NOT BY THE FACT THAT THIN GUY FROM BLEACH BASICALLY TOLD HER THAT ASUKA IS IN LOVE WITH HER. No, she's surprised he cares.
Then, they meet to have a TOUR OF FLASHBACKS...and in no way discuss their real feelings. HUZZAH. Asuka's mum arrives and with EXCUSE OF SOMETHING, tells him they have to leave quickly.
So Asuka goes to fetch it, not realizing she's doing this to be alone with Transfer Student Girl and tell her WHAT A HORRIBLE GIRL SHE IS FOR NOT BEING GIRLY. AND RICH. Or she tells her that Asuka is engaged.
...THE NEXT SUNDAY.
In some fancy restaurant, Asuka's dad meets Passable Guy.
Oh yes, please, go to the wedding and make this end.
And with this, Passable Guy decides to help them get back together.
And she doesn't answer this to respect his engagement plans. HANA. YORI. DANGO.
After sulking for a bit, Asuka meets Passable Guy and only thing the latter does is tell Asuka to be honest and that “everyone is waiting for your happy ending”. Oh, that, and he gives him some drawings that finally make it clear that he's author of Love-tic.
And he does the same for Transfer Student Girl. We barely get to see her reaction/what was on the drawings, when Passable Guy arrives.
To lie his ass off about Asuka being kidnapped.
WONDER WHAT THAT COULD MEAN.
Upon arrival, she starts to kick ass without taking names. Atta girl.
Inside the church:
What did I tell you? At the same exact moment he's about to say the name of the girl he loves...
She kicks the door open.
She seems a bit more fun, I think. At least we know she's bendy.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
HIS MOTHER FORGIVES HIM RIGHT AWAY, WITHOUT ANY STRUGGLE. It's even worse than what I predicted.
For your reference, there's about 4 minutes before the episode ends.
FUCK MY GRANDPA, LET'S GET LAID!
Thank god you spelled it out, he must have been very confused after you said you never wanted to be away from him.
And they run off into the distance, away from the security guards who want to beat them up. Aww, how romantic.
In conclusion: go watch Hana Yori Dango or the Ouran jdrama adaption. Both of those are much, much better than this.
