The Lodger - Doctor Who s5e11 recap

You guyz. OMGZ.
Also, when you have to actually google the name of the next episode, you know it's been a long ass while.

So this starts off well. The Doctor leaves the Tardis and it starts being all explody and stuff with Amy in it. Oh, yeah, this must be the companion-less episode. Or the Doctor-less episode.

One day later...

Creepy house. I hope it doesn't have a child who draws monsters or something.

Oh, it's that bloke from Gavin and Stacey who is...not Gavin. Or Stacey.

Note the flyer. Clever.
His almost-girlfriend goes because of PLOT happening and as he's talking to himself, wondering if he should tell her he loves her, the door rings. He opens it while saying “I love you”--

Always jumping out of the wrong cake, Doctor. Does he have...something in his ear?

“This is how people kiss nowadays, right?”

Kinda.

Vincent and the Doctor - Doctor Who s5e10 recap

BILL NIGHY! This is off to a good start.

Amy suspects the Doctor isn't telling her anything because he's been taking her to lots of nice places.

And they find a evil looking face in a painting. How that is a face, I don't know. But off to investigate they go!

Before they fangirl about each other's ties, the Doctor asks Bill the exact date of the painting. It was done the night before he killed himself. I hope it's not a giant bee again.

Nice polish colour. I've noticed Amy favours dusty colours. Even a few episodes ago she was wearing a sort of grey-ish purple. And yes, I know this is interesting to no one.

Nice job with the actor. He finds Amy cute and proceeds to ask her...

Vincent: “That accent of yours...are you from Holland, like me?”
Amy: “No.”
Doctor: “Yes!”

They fangirl over each other's hair. I think I may have said this at least 10 times in the last few recaps, but I love gingers. I love their freckles, their almost translucent eyelashes, their general...gingerness.

Cold Blood - Doctor Who s5e9 recap

I'm sorry for the wait. I had a decent backlog of posts but then I started working so that all fell apart. To make for that, I'll try to post 2 more recaps this week. "Try" being the operative word.

It starts with a narration. The Doctor helped the two races coexist. This is that story. Hm. Very "The End of Time", this.

“The front door is the best way to enter, of course.”

So that only took...2 minutes.

The mad surgeon gets called away just in time. Maybe he went for lunch.

Amy cleverly pickpocketed him and sets herself and the other bloke free. Trying to find a way out, they find his kid instead.

I assume he's also being transformed into a tree.

Rory is remarkable in this. The alien lady said one of them will kill her and he's trying his best to keep everybody calm and organized. So this is what @jjnopants meant when he said Rory was only wimpy around Amy.

Literary Cleanup, book #14

Terry Pratchett - Mort (the portuguese translation is available at your local library)

The palate cleanser. After I read the previous two books, I started Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. I want to like Douglas Adams. I know he's funny, the ideas are interesting but the style of writing on that particular book is very hard to get into. 65 pages in, and no sign of wanting to continue, I figured I'd motivate myself by reading the last Discworld book on my shelf (for now, because much like Pokemon, I feel like I gotta catch 'em all).

I went through it about a week, which is quite fast for me, seeing as I only picked it up every other day. As with previous Pratchett books, I quite enjoyed this. More so because this book starts the Death saga (if you are unsure what I meant by that, click on this). Death is, without a doubt, one of the funniest characters in the whole Discworld universe. The all caps talking, kitten loving skeletal figure is at the core of this novel though he's not its main character, as I first thought.

The main character is a fella called Mort. Characterized as a person who "thought too much" and was "made of knees", he was pushed by his father to become an apprentice. His mentor? Death. From here, we not only witness the delightful minutia of Death's work and routine, but also, Mort's evolution into a person made out of less knees. I won't dive the story too much, as I want you to enjoy it as much as I did, but I'll state that this is probably the easiest read I had this year. So much fun in 300 pages...what more could you ask. Well, possibly a curry.

Excerpt:

"I'm no demon, I'm a human!" he said, and stopped in shock as his words emerged in perfect Klatch.
"So you're a thief?" said the father. "A murderer? To creep in thus, are you a tax-gatherer?" His hand slipped under the table and came up holding a meat cleaver honed to paper thinness. His wife screamed and dropped the plate and clutched the youngest children to her.
Mort watched the blade weave through the air and gave in.
"I bring you greetings from the uttermost circles of hell.", he hazarded.
